Question: Do potatoes when cut into smaller pieces cook faster then larger pieces?

  1. Yes, they do. For basically the same reason that penguins in colder places tend to be bigger than penguins in warmer places.

Oh, and another way to roast a potato faster is to put a metal skewer (rod) through it.

  2. Yes – like Edward says. It’s about surface area to volume ratio – if the volume gets smaller in proportion to its surface area, it can exchange heat more efficiently.

And is also the reason why smaller people tend to get colder quicker, and why smaller chunks of ice melt faster.
