Question: •What's the difference between astronomy and astrology?

  1. Hi awesomekid,

Lots of people confuse the two: it’s a pity that the words are so similar when the meanings are so different.

Astronomy is the science that is about studying things in space (galaxies, stars, and strange things like black holes) and the history of the universe. Astronomers answer questions like, ‘How old is the universe’, ‘What did the universe look like 14 billion years ago’, or ‘Are there other Earth-like planets in our galaxy on which aliens could live?’

Astrology is a kind of fortune-telling based on the positions of stars and planets in the sky. It is not science and is also pretty silly if you remember that, because science tells us where all the stars and planets will be in the sky now, tomorrow, and next year, all that astrology is a black-magic way of coming up with fortune-teller predictions (such as ‘you will have a lot of homework next week’) based on nothing more than the date.
