Question: What foods can make you live longer???

    I don’t know of any ONE food that has been proven to make you live longer… but we do know that a balanced diet keeps you healthy and hopefully without nasty disease for longer!

    There was an interesting study done with labrador dog actually, who obviously LOOOVE their food. They had pairs of dogs and gave one dog only 75% of what the other one got to eat. They studied these dogs for over 12 years.

    They found that (as you would expect) the leaner dogs were happier and did not suffer from arthritis like the fatter dogs but the most amazing thing was that on average, the leaner dogs lived for 2 years longer than the other, fatter dogs! And we are talking dog years here – so 2 years out of an average lifespan of 12 years is 16.67% longer!

    So I am a definite believer in the theory that eating less helps you live longer… but I am also a true believer in enjoying life and enjoying food! so I guess as always it comes down to that balance and enjoying the good things in moderation.

  2. I’d start by saying, ‘not cupcakes’, unless you know of some special cupcakes that I don’t…

    I agree with Kate that it’s important to eat a healthy, balanced diet. Not such a good idea, I think, go looking for “silver bullet” “superfoods” that will make you live longer or run faster or think better or whatever.

    It’s also really really important NOT to get hung up with being thin and dieting to be thin. Obviously you shouldn’t be eating junk food for dinner every day, and if your doctor says you are overweight then you need to do something. But you also need to remember:
    First, some people are naturally thinner than others.
    Second, there IS such a thing as being unhealthily thin.
    Third, worrying too much about your fatness/thinness is stressful, and that in itself can be unhealthy.
