Question: What is food poisening?

Keywords: ,

  1. Hi vetro66,

Food poisoning occurs when you eat food that has nasty bacteria growing in it, like salmonella. When it gets into your stomach, it makes you feel really sick and the toxins that are in the meat can cause damage to the lining of your intestine. In bad cases, the bacteria and toxin can cause the cells that line your intestines to die. This can cause really bad vomiting and diarrhoea, which does not normally pass until the intestines have had some time to settle down!

  2. Hi vetro66,

So “food poisoning” is a bad name because it is very different to “normal” poisoning which is caused by a chemical, not by something that’s nasty and alive.
