For me……Charles Darwin.
Everything that i do now wouldn’t have been possible if the Origin of Species didn’t get published.
I see science as a way of understanding the world in which we live, Darwin came up with a simple way of describing and categorising the world.
More recently, Elizabeth Blackburn – she is an aussie who won the Nobel prize for her work of Telomeres – which I work on!
Physics teacher extraordinaire, pioneering quantum physicist, witty writer, and the only person I’ve ever heard of who could do science in a girlie bar. [Note to moderators: I’m not making that up! Read his memoirs ‘Surely you’re joking, Mr Feynman!’]

Yep – Charles Darwin. He made some amazing biological discoveries and was a pretty awesome natural illustrator too!
