Me and my work

Understanding how foods make us healthy

My work involves looking at the way in which food gets into the body and what these foods do once they are inside us; I investigate how food can make us healthy and unhealthy!  

Specifically, I am interested in how food can protect our cells and our DNA, in an effort to reduce disease

My Typical Day

looking at cells, looking at DNA, working with people who take part in our studies

What I'd do with the money

This money would fund school visits for scientist, in particular rural and remote areas

What is the most fun thing you've done?

have kids!! I have a daughter, Tilly, who is 5 and a son Alfie who is 1.

What did you want to be after you left school?

a doctor

Were you ever in trouble in at school?

yes…….but nothing ever too serious!

What's the best thing you've done as a scientist?

come up with a new way to measure damage to DNA
