I was going to say the skull…but that’s part of the skeleton and not really an organ. Then I thought skin – its certainly the Largest singe part of the body… but still not strictly an organ.
So I’m thinking heaviest (and also assuming a well hydrated, living person) would be the intestines, followed by the liver, spleen, heart, kidneys etc…
Believe it or not – the skin is the biggest organ in the body, and makes up 10-15% of an adults body weight (about 5kg). The covers almost the entire body and is the first line of defense against bacteria and viruses – so is a really important part of the human immune system.

Hi Kate and Bev,
I’m hearing different things from you about the skin: so how IS an ‘organ’ defined?
