There are probably two groups of ways in which they can affect mood
1. through a physiological effect (something it does to your body through chemical means) that should be the same for all people;
2. through a psychological effect: a food could make you feel happier because YOU just LIKE eating it — it does not have to have the same effect on other people.
But I know that the physiological and the psychological are linked in complicated ways we don’t fully understand… biologists Nathan, Kate, Bev?
Yes! certain foods send signals to the body to release endorphins – the natural chemical that makes us feel good. I’m sure there is some preference involved in that too and different tastes 🙂
