I googled it and got all types of answers like this one by someone called “William D: I think that the Double quarter punder w/ cheese packs the most calories. It contains 740 calories and 380 calories are from fat. That is over 50%”
BUT part of being a scientist is finding stuff out yourself and not relying gon the internet – so I can’t trust that this answer is correct. I don;t know where this person got their info. It might be complete bollocks.
There are a lot of pretty unhealthy things on the McDonalds menu, and the quarter pounder with cheese or bacon double cheese burgers are the highest in terms of calories and fat. The thickshakes are also pretty bad…with over 1000 calories in a large triple chocolate thickshake!
What’s interesting, though, is that some of the so-called “healthy” options that have been introduced to McDonalds chains recently are actually just as bad, if not worse, than some of the traditional offerings – especially if you add all the dressing. For example, a chicken Caesar salad with dressing and croutons has a whopping 425 calories and 21.4g of fat, whereas a standard hamburger (no cheese) only has about 253 calories and 7.7g of fat
In terms of really unhealthy menu items, my personal favourite (not because I’ve eaten it or ever want to, but just because it sounds so unbelievably unhealthy) is the McGridle. This is a breakfast item that I found on an American web-site, and I don’t think it’s available in Australia (probably a good thing!). The McGridle is a hot cake syrup, sausage, cheese and eggs all rolled into a portable sandwich and containing an impressive 560 calories and 32 grams of fat!
So, like anything, McDonalds is ok every now and again, but not something you want to be eating every day! If you ever need to learn more about McDonalds, I’d highly recommend the movie “Super Size Me”, which is a documentary about a guy (Morgan Spurlock) who eats nothing but McDonalds (breakfast, lunch and dinner) for a month – it’s pretty eye-opening!
